Here are a few pics of my seahorses. I got 1 male and 3 females for the time being, will add more males hopefully. When I purchased them they were black, but within days, they changed color to silver and white. They eat frozen mysid and brine shrimp, and are doing OK I think (had them almost 2 months now)

I am told they are H. Barbouri, although I am not sure, so if anyone else knows, let me know.

Sorry for the crappy pics - through scratched acrylic.

No babies yet, but I'm hoping...

Thought of moving them into a nano tank for work (but I think they won't like the lower height for breeding), and also I like the convenience of having them attached to the whole system (keeps the water in pristine condition).

I saw a 20 gallon High in the LFS and it was tempting to buy, get drilled and put in the living room, attached to main system, but for now, they are in one of the bigger sections of the bangii set-up (16" x 16" cube) and seem to like it OK.

The pics aren't that bad.Do you keep them in your 110 or do you have a second tank?

No, they aren't in the 110, they are attached to it via the overflow, but are in a tank of their own with much less flow than the main tank.

Very cool Mark. Good luck with the breeding attempts. Caught your thread about a bigger tank and if or when this happens if you need any help setting it up please let me know. I'd be more than willing to help/learn.

The pics are not close up enough for identification but I don't think they are Barbs. They rarely ever start as black, and they don't have typical Barb markings, but close ups would help.

Hopefully these pics add enough detail for you Aaron, on seahorse.org some say barbouri, some reidi, some erectus, so????

I will look into more but I see nothing that tells me they are Barbs.

Hi Mark. I recently went through the "what the heck are they" thing when I realized my reidi wern't reidi. One thing I learned is that IDing seahorses is not that strait forward.

If you go here (http://seahorse.fisheries.ubc.ca/IDguide.html) you will find the cities ID guide in pdf format.

From the picture of your female (3rd pic in the first set) it looks a lot like mine, which I now believe could be H. kuda.

Just to complicate things further, most folks believe H. kuda to be at liest 6 separate species so...

Good luck with the ID.
