Site Changes - May 2005

Thanks for the kind words folks. :)

Just a few other things that have changed - or are changing over the next few days.

Already done:


Increased the permitted sizes for Avatars - so feel free to use a larger one now. User CP (http://usercp.php?) + Edit Avatar (http://profile.php?do=editavatar)
Increased the permitted sizes for Profile Picture. This is a place that you can upload a picture of YOU - just to make things a little more real and personal. Upload your pic - and then when you're member profile is shown - you can be recognized next time you're standing next to another community member. :) User CP (http://usercp.php?) + Edit Profile Picture (http://profile.php?do=editprofilepic)
As mentioned already - attachments are now seen as Thumbnails instead of full-sized images. I have it set presently at 100-pixels wide - but I can increase this to 150-pixels wide if people feel it would be better. Please let me know.
To be done in the next few days:

Upgrade vBPortal to the newest version (3.0.3) - will offer some new features and streamline some server processes
Upgrade AP Photo Gallery to the newest version (5.03). This will be a HUGE change - and will offer some awesome new features such as -

Contest Mode - allows a category to be set to "contest" mode where users can only vote for one photo in the category (no ratings per image)
Print View of just image to allow for easy printing of photo
and more


Numerous Hacks to be added to the site that will incorporate many new and desired features such as: Import images from your photogallery directly through a new pop-up window (no more back and forth from the gallery to the forums)
I am also working to incorporate a module that will pull the most recent listings from the AP Classifieds to the portal home page. This will allow for fast viewing of new items listed into the Aquarium-Related categories.

Stay tuned - we are working very hard to bring the newest features available to an online community to you right here on AquariumPros.ca!!!!

Added Photo Of The Month to the AP Photo Gallery (http://www.aquariumpros.ca/photopost/index.php).

Upload your pics to this section - and then members can come to vote for the best ones!!


You can also use the AP Photo Gallery (../photopost/index.php) to house all of your tank pics - and you can use the UBBCode: link that is provided upon uploading your pic to insert into your posts - this will provide FULL-SIZE images inline (not the thumbnails like with attachments). Just highlight the whole UBBCode included in the box - and then paste it into your message as-is.

We are working to install a pop-up box to allow you to import your AP Photo Gallery (../photopost/index.php) pics directly into your posts.

We're still working on the site - stay tuned for more!!!

Have added the following hacks today:


Member Of The Day - "The member of the day is someone randomly picked from all the users in your forum that have certain amount of posts the day before, that have visited the forum and that have at least 50 posts and 10 reputation." - This shows at the top of the Forums (http://www.aquariumpros.ca/forums/index.php) listing page.
Users Online Today - "A simple hack that displays all members who have visited (loged-into) the forum today" - This appears at the very bottom of the Forums (index.php) listing page.
Display Rep Given in UserCP - "This will show the last xx Reputation Points given to you in your User CP (usercp.php?)"
Send PM on Thread Moderation - "Sends the poster a PM whenever a moderator makes any changes to a post - ie. moves it/closes it/etc."
Send PM on Reputation Given - "Sends you a PM any time that you are given Reputation Points (+/-)"

OOPS - forgot to mention...

If you are interested in receiving a PM when you have been issued Reputation Points - please visit your User CP (http://www.aquariumpros.ca/forums/usercp.php?) - select Edit Profile (http://www.aquariumpros.ca/forums/profile.php?do=editprofile) from the left column - and then scroll to the very bottom where you will find:

If you don't have the checkmark in the box - you will NOT receive the PM's.

We have now added the Gallery Link to your new posts.

You will now see to the right side of your thread or post composition (not on Quick Reply) - My Pictures [Click here to open your Gallery]

This will let you browse your uploaded photos in the AP Gallery - and directly insert them into your post!!

With Firefox - you can select the thumbnail or the full-size image to insert.
With MSIE - you can insert a thumbnail that opens to your gallery / thumbnail that open the original pic / just a thumbnail or just original pic.

Not sure why Firefox doesn't take advantage of the other ones - likely something to do with ActiveX controls.



Also - we have added the Quick Edit option - you will see a new icon in the bottom right of your own posts - http://www.aquariumpros.ca/forums/images/buttons/quickedit_icon.gif

Clicking this - will allow you to make Quick Edits to your post - but no WYSIWYG editing.
