MY new clam is slightly open but doesn't seem to want to fill out. It was just moved a few days ago from a well established system. Is the foot suppsed to be out of the clam at all times? I did not see the foot out when I picked it up either. I hope I'm worried about nothing and it's just adjusting. MY params are good but my salinity is a notch or two higher thfan the tank it came from/ Not in high flow or intense light. 2.5' from 400w MH at 8 hrs

Difference between tanks salinity shouldn't be too much of a factor so long as you gave the clam a long, slow acclimation drip. Clams (and fish from LFS with miniscule amounts of salt in the water) are the one thing I acclimate very slowly. My clams were all open and happy looking within minutes of being in my tank. In fact they opened in the bucket I acclimate them in.

I think all you can do is wait. Hope any shock it's suffering it gets over.

Is the clam opening and closing? Does it react to movement or shadow?

Could well be that one of your fish is a clam nipper. Keep a close eye on them. All it takes is a nip every couple hours and the clam will retract like that.

Blasto did you burp your clam? Sometimes air gets trapped inside and will irritate the clam.
If it's still responding to light don't give up on it. Feed it and give it a bit more time, I have one that did that for a week now it's just fine.

Thanks for the tips guys...It's close up now after the lights went out last night and hasnt opened yet.
Mug...It seemed to be reacting still yesterday.
When I pulled it out of the bucket to place it in the tank it burped out the water in my face! like a bomb, scared the crap outta me, water all over the place. Dripped it for an hour first. I rotated him 360 and inspected for pyramids. the foot was not out at all and you could see up into it a little but could not tell if there was any in there or not.
I hope it is not sick
