I have come to the desision that I want to creat a stand that will house all of the various tanks / equipment that will be used for my tank. so what I am thinking is a 3 level stand.

on the bottom level there will be a 33 gal tank for a sump and a 25 gallon tank for isolating things that I don't want in the main tank.

the middle level will be the 50 gal tank (main tank) and the sides will be used for storage

the top level will house a 20 gal refuge and a 5 to 10 gal container for distilled water for top off.

this link shows a quick sketch of what I am thinking.

now my question is how can I build this with out haveing to use huge wood for tank suports.. if I use a 3X3 iron angle will that be enuf to hold the weight I am taking about?

any ideas or thoughts would be helpfull

Thanks

Hi,

Do you have plans to put a bigger tank in place of the 50 ? Say, a 120G (60x24x18).

Well now that brings up a interesting idea.. and to anwser you question Victor.. no that wasn't the idea.. the large size was so that I could stuff bigger tanks below and above for sumps / refug ect.. but not that you have mentioned that ya I guess if I build it right it would be perfect for a future expansion :)

As we all know in this hobby, you start off small and then when you are addicted to marine tanks you want the biggest! If you are going to build your own three tier stand, I would suggest going big now..........6 months from now when you are enjoying your creation I know you will be thinking "I wish I had a bigger tank"
It happens to us all:D

there were a few changes, like I ended up going two levels instead of three, and I ended up with a 92 gal (36l x 24w x 25t)
for the main tank.. I still have the 33 as my sump but I have made it so my 25 tall is like a secondary show tank on the bottom level. well how about I just show you a pic hehe

VERY nice, a 90 gal is a perfect size for that setup. That would look good in my family room. Hummmm, you have given me an idea :D

Thanks,
