I think seahorses are happiest in high tanks, as they need a lot of vertical swimming room..
Correct me if I am wrong Jensen

I'm not an expert when it comes to seahorses. I think Aaron from Seanic would be the person to ask.
Sorry :wavehand:

Aaron was keeping a pair of ponies in a nano cube so I guess it can be done. I would think size (of the SH's) would dictate whether it's possible or not.
Jensen, what colour are these ponies? They appear to be the black ones I've seen before. What temp do they prefer, warmer or cooler. I've been considering starting up my 40 tall and trying a few ponies.

Kev,
My supplier told me that when he had 2 or 3 black ones in the batch. Before bagging and shipping it, they all turn black.
So Im assuming that there are yellow ones in here, just dont know which ones :thumbsup:

When deciding tank size the general rule of thumb is the tank has to be 3 times the legth of the seahorse when it is full grown. ie. if you had a 5 inch horse it would have to go into a 15 inch tank. Also were these ponies from a place near/in indonesia. THey look very much similar to the ones that came into my lfs.
Scott.

Nano cubes are not good permanent homes for seahorses they are not high enough. The ones Mugster saw at my place were only 3" high and they never did stay in the cube permanently. Scotty is right on with 3x the size of adult for tank height and that is the minimum.

Hi;
Well, if they are all eating frozen mysis, feed them fast because although
pictures are not clear, they look VERY ''skinny'' to me.....
Yvan
P.s. About 20 years experience with seahorses......
P.s. Scott, those look like Kuda to me....deffinatly not Erectus.....

Hello Jaret;
I'm not Aaron, but no, you don't need reef filtration and for the
bigger species, i would not go smaller than 20 gal.
Seahorse.org. ...lot of info on seahorses.....

Everything Yvan said is right on. If you keep nitrates down almost any filter will do. A great tank is a 20gallon tall tall. I have 10 gallon tall tall as well but you are playing with very little water so the 20 gives a larger margin for error.

Is it the same difference between the male and female Kuda's as compared to other seahorses?
I bought 2 of the aboved mention Kuda's, they are very active and eating frozen mysis already. Some of the Kuda's had very thin stomach, so I got them home and fed them a bunch of mysis and now their stomachs are full.
When I was trying to pick out a pair of kuda's, it was very difficult....They all looked like females to me...
I have a pair of H.Barbouri's and the male was very easy to distinguish with the pouch on the stomach....
With the kuda's is that the same method? I didn't see any noticeable pouch on any of the RR's Kudas...

Hi;
Yep, same difference......
i take a look at he pictures, and all the ones that i can
clearly see are females.....
At this size, it should be very easy to see the pouch...
