hi well we have a saltwater tank and it has been runing since july
we had 2 ocellaris clowns and a yellow tang . 2 days ago we found a clown
laying on the floor behind the fish tank. does anyone have an idea
why he would jump out?

The best guesses (that I have read) for fishes jumping out are -
overcrowding (ie tank too small and fish are trying to establish their territories)
incompatible fish (certain species do not like each other)
poor water quality
something startled the fish
fish harrassing each other
felt like carpet surfing ;)

I don't think anyone knows for sure. If you gave us more info (size of tank, water parameters, all the fish and their size), we might be able to guess but it would just be a guess.

Welcome to Aquarium Pros. Water Quality would be my first guess. Any drops/rises in Salinity? Anything died in the tank? etc.

what size tank?
type of skimmer?
how often water changes?
how much live rock?
lighting?
other filtration?


In my experience...fish that jumped out usually were being chased by another fish.....or something startled them suddenly...they panicked..and swam straight up and forgot to stop!


Never really sure though .....
Has anything changed on your tank recently?

well we have a 38 gallon tank

coralife lighting
excaliber skimmer
1 yellow tank 20 crabs 1 clown fish now 2 brittle stars
the filter is emperior
sand bottom
about 15-20 lbs live rock
i bought most of my stuff in the usa in buffalo
so much cheaper than here
where is a good place in toronto other than

this is our starter tank we are planning on getting a bigger one some time
but i will buy it in the usa
