Can you be a bit more specific with your description?
Do you mean like Red Hair Algae, or are you looking at Cyano??

I'm thinking cyano also. You have to give us more to go by. How old is your set up ,what kind of lighting do you have , how long do they stay on for , water specs. and so forth. We're all here to help and most of us have been through every algae bloom in the book. The more info we have the better we can help.

my water quality seems to be A1

Sounds to me like you have cyano or commonly called red slime same as it looks. You can try a few things.
1) Reduce your lighting period
2) Siphon it out with a turkey baster real PITA but it helps a bit
3) Cut back on the amount you are feeding
4) Turn your skimmer up
5) Do a search here on AP for RED SLIME you will get a ton of results
Good Luck if I have missed anything someone feel free to chime in.

I have a small 35 gallon set up and up until recently I've had a very bad outbreak of red slime. Steve, at the big al's in barrie suggested using E.M. Tablets (erythromycin). I was skeptical but I tried it and it is working. Don't use a whole tablet at a time start with a quarter and wait a couple of days. It might take some time but it will work. Red slime is a bacteria and the E.M. will kill it. It won't stop the slime from coming back, you have to figure out why it's appearing. But it will keep it to a dull roar while you figure it out.
