contributions.. oh yea..i am in the Toronto GTA..so i am willing to travel a little ways to get it.. if it is worth it..

Could someone id an macroalgae I have in my tank...Sorry no pics yet. Its brown in colour and the leaves are like tea-leafs, grows out of a dark brown stem that is attached to rocks. There are small bums on the stems too. Looks like a house plant.
If anyone want some for their tank, you are more than welcome, they are growing out of everywhere on my live rocks.

hey i am waiting for all my pals in Ont... i need some macro algae..and need it soon..i have cleaned up my rocks by using a tooth brush..and use a phosphate sponge to get rid of the phosphates...(yes the marco may suffer from this) but i would rather go natural and use the macro to suck up the phosphates..
unfortunately i dont have much to offer.... i could give someone some sand from my tank... it has stuff in it..and i am sure would help seed or add to the tank... i have some feather dusters growing and well what ever else.. there is...
thanks for any donations..

Thanks ReefinGeek,
After looking at various search sites, the unidentified algae I have is the brown sargassum.
Thats how it looked it. see pic

hey commie, I'd love some of the macro. By the way the green hairy shroom is called just that. I've also heard it called an elephant ear.

Theo,
You can have as many of those sargassum as I can prune...it is filling up my tank quite rapidly and I am begining to think I should get rid of them and move them to a sump/refugium..
Unfortunately, the green mushroom didn't make it. It was spilling brown and white stuff from its mouth. I wonder if the superglue I used to glue the shroom to a rock, contaminated it?

Hi commie...I have no idea. I took it off the rock on Thursday and didn't show any signs of dying. I've heard of people using super glue but it doesn't sound right to me. Anyway I'd offer you more but I only have two left. Maybe we can arrange something for the macro algae. How do you attach it to the rock?

Just butting in here, is it possible to super glue shrooms? I just wrapped a thread lightly around the shroom and the rock I wanted it on and within a couple of days, it was attached. Super glue would be easier, but I thought the heat or chemicals stress them too much so they just "slime" away from the glue. I haven't tried it, though, so I'm just wondering.

hey commie can ya spare some more of the macro.. i will grab some if you can.. i need some to soak up some phosphates.. and if it will root itself.. (i hope) then it will help... yes it is not the source of the problem.but rather a stop gap cure..
thanks..

Send me an email for arrangements to pickup the macroalgaes. I am going to be in town next couple of weeks, so it should be fine. I want to do a water change soon, so will probably do some pruning of the weeds. you are more than welcome to have as many as I pick out.
On the mushrooms, I putted it in a cup with coral rubbles on the bottom, and let the mushroom attached to the bits, and super glue the bits onto a larger piece of rock. The mushroom was doing great for 2 days, then yesterday started sliming up and was stinking up the whole tank, had to take it out.
:(
But the blue mushroom is doing great...Attached to a bigger piece of rock and is opening up..

I now seem to have tons of Caulerpa. Most of the stuff is growing in my Refugium. There is Grape, and another kind. I will put up a website in the next few days to put up pictures. They will be poor as I only have an Intel CS630 right now. It is too bad I live in Calgary (too bad for you that is), or I could supply a lot of Caulerpa. I am thinking of pruning it to give to a fellow reefer to feed to her Tangs. She can't grow it because her water is too pure.
