I know this may be a stupid question but, has anyone used or know of anyone that has used a laundry tub as a sump or refugium. Most are made of polypropylene and they seem to be the right size and shape. Plus they could be easily drilled and they are relatively cheap.

Wayne,
No such thing as a stupid question, ok there are a few; but that's a topic for another discussion.
I don't see any reason why you couldn't use a laundry tub for a sump, or just about any other plastic, rubbermaid type container or trash can. As long as the vessel has been properly cleaned and sterilized before being brought online. I say sterilize as plastics, especially injection molded pieces, usually have a thin oil film on it. This thin film runs the gamut from food grades to anti-fungal/bacterials, and was applied to the product primarily to facilitate removal of the unit from the mold.
So clean it, drill it and rock and roll.
