Has anyone had any good/bad experiences with JBJ compact lighting? Here is a link of the unit I'm thinking on going with.
http://www.jbjlighting.com/sys_formosa_dx.html Anything would help.

We had the product line available to us...most people we spoke to weren't impressed with the BANG for the BUCK.

Nice looking design...but not very much light for the money.

If you're still interested in this lighting...I will check to see if I can still get it.

Cheers,

What would I expect to pay for light replacement? (I think there are 4 65w)... and could I sub these 65's for 96's?

IJO, I own one of those JBJ Formosa DX units. What I have is the 36" 96 watts one. It comes with a 10,000K daylight 96 watts PC bulb AND a "blue" light 96 watts PC bulb (that is 192 effective watts). Each bulb has its own control. It is a very nice unit, comes with two micro fans and is built in aluminum, painted in black. JBJ does offer great services (They replace my blue light 2 times w/o any charge, shipped next day air!)

AJ, those units are cheap! I did the compares against Hamilton, Southbay, CSL and DYI ones... and JBJ full fixtures are cheap when you do the watt per $ comparison. But then again, to buy this unit, you have to deal with a US retailer… And horror stories happen... Better to deal with a Canadian retailer even if the price is a bit higher...

I was very excited last year when I met the supplier for the JBJ Lighting systems at a convention here in Toronto. I felt that the look and design was fantastic on these units.

We brought in and sold a few...and the response we received wasn't the greatest. So due to customer feed-back - we stopped bringing them in.

If there is a demand for these units...we will definitely start to bring them in again with no problem. Up until now...we have had more of a demand for the the HelloLights systems + HelloLights has started to deal with the new Helios Lighting Systems - which are very simular to the JBJ units.

These new Helios units can be seen here:
http://aquariumpros.ca/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=A&Category_Code=HLS

The really nice thing about these Helios units is that they come with the HelloLights PC bulbs. This means that you can choose the TRUE 03 Actinics or any other of the color temperatures that HelloLights makes.

Thanx QMan... they do look good.. but due to the fact that the guy ended up selling JBJ setup to someone else.. I decided to go with HelloLights 4 VHO. I'll be sure to give everyone my comments on this system when its all setup.

The shipment has been shipped from California...and is on the way. We are just waiting for Canada Customs to clear the shipment, and then we will have it.

As soon as the items are delivered...they will ship.

Sorry for the delay...US shipments are always so much fun. :D

AJ,

Is this normal? the original quote stated the shipment would arrive first week of the month.. then it moved to the second week... and now were in our 4th week. If it was $10 or $20 I wouldn't be worried.. but with an amount slightly over $600 things are staring to heat up... HELP!

Just spoke with UPS...the items have been received, and will be delivered to us tomorrow - thus will ship out tomorrow as well.

Sorry for the delay...once I place an order to come into Canada - there isn't anything I can do to speed up the Customs clearance.

I will have tracking numbers for you tomorrow.

Best regards,

UPS in in the process of delivering the items to me via Local Courier. ONE of THREE packages were delivered to me today - but for some reason, they held the other two packages for Customer Pick-Up. I have spoken to the management @ UPS and will forward a Letter of Appology to those affected.

Please understand that AquariumPros.ca was in no way responsible for this delay, and that UPS is taking full responsibility.

Due to the current time of the day (5pm), I will have to ship out tomorrow (Thursday, October 24th).

Sincerely,

IJO

ummm AJ

Have you shipped the bulbs? Your original estimate was a couple days (that was last thursday). I'm a bit worried that the lack of communication on your part is an indication that you have no idea of what's wrong either. Please get in contact with me ASAP.

IJO

P.S Is this normal with orders placed with AquariumPros?

Ivan,

This is NOT normal practice in any way.

I'm sorry for the lack of communication...I have been swamped with the upcoming move and I have been extremely sick (flu + Migraine) for the past few days as well. I knew that we would be a little behind due to the move...but unfortunately my Migraine has put me behind even more.

My supplier notified me yesterday that they have the lights...I have just not been able to pick them up due to my Migraine.

I am sorry, and will get them out to you post-haste.

lol...ain't VHO a great thing?!?

They are a little bright at first...but you will get used to it and the bulbs will 'break-in' a little too.

Running 2+2 is a great combo - but as it's your tank that YOU are looking at...you're welcome to run x3 Actinic + x1 Aquasun. It's more your personal preference. If you are wanting to keep light-dependant corals...then I would suggest that you stick with the 2+2 set-up though (more usable light spectrum for the corals).
