Bought a used 65 gallon tank locally. Thick glass. No canopy though. Second purchase, big ol' pail of Instant ocean synthetic salt mix, one Aquaclear powerhead 802, a small Aquaclear CycleGuard 200 power filter, and a 20$ hydrometer. Thanks Drew for the assistance. Filled with good old Niagara tap water and started the pumps. I hear I was supposed to do a wet test then drain the tank....Anyway I added salt, then more and more. Seasoned the needle on the gravity meter for 24 hours. I must need a lot more salt because the needle doesn't move yet.
While I was in Windsor today I stopped by the largest pet depot there was. Huge room seperate for aquariums. Bought some crushed coral for a base. Was told to apply live sand on top. Also got a bottle of 'Cycle'. I'm sure everyone already knows what that is. Pet depot guy says don't use a dead shrimp or similar because of way too much ammonia. too much time and more difficulty. "Oh yah" I said, 'ok'. Putting in the crushed coral now. when done I will add the nitrifying bacteria. I turned off the power head like I was told, but left the filter running.
should have a forum sig soon.
