Hey that sounds like a good price.
When I went looking for a MH 400W for my indoor garden, I was told not to bother with the hydroponic store. I went to a lighting/electrical wholesaler in Burlington and got the whole kit in a box for 105$ after tax. comes with 14" reflector, ballast, lamp and socket. Now the lamp had to replaced with a grow lamp from Iwasaki as the stock lamp was not making the plants grow. (for the record, it was legit grow operation with lots of hot peppers)
I am looking for a proper hood/reflector to fit my 65G.
The bulb is universal so can be burned in hor. or vert.
Here's the question...As for coral and the like, would I get the same situation due to the light colour temperature difference?
Should I keep the grow lamp in? Any thoughts...

I think you'll need to turf the grow lamp. Most are in the 3000K-4000K range which is a bit too low for our needs, which is roughly 6500K and higher. But find who and what type of lamp it is, there is a slim chance that it may be useable, but not likely.
As for the hood and reflector that can be easily done DIY, lots of plans and ideas out there. Try a search here or on Reefcentral.

What ballast model have you bought? The cheapest one I've seen on the Nedco.ca website is 59$ and it's a 175 watt.
Thanx
