As mentioned in your initial thread...

You do not have the needed set-up for this fish. When an animal is stressed - they can be very abbusive to themselves - especially if there is already a paracite (Ich) issue.

You are strongly urged to take this fish to someone who does indeed have adequate housing - to attempt to keep this fish from dying.

Unless you act IMMEDIATELY - it is not likely that the fish will survive.

I figure he's either going to be able to eat (mouth isn't so damaged to prevent him) or he isn't until the damaged mouth heals.

But, any idea how your Tang came to have a bloodied mouth and some teeth missing?

ant81 - I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you don't have the resources to house the fish you've got.

You need to return at least one of those tangs to the Live Fish Store. If your LFS said you can put a Sohal, Yellow, 2 Perc clowns, a flame and a six bar angel in a 55 gallon tank, they should be reported to the humane society. Yeah, I'm kidding (sorta) but that's an inhumane way to stock those fish.

You need to get a bigger tank or get rid of some fish. I've got a 120 with a Kole, Yellow and Sailfin tang and that's it. I'm at my ethical limit of how many tangs I can put in this tank. Yes, I'd love to have a purple or a black tang but it's just not the right thing to do.

If you simply don't give a crap then you're probably asking the wrong group of people for advice. ;)

Thanks AJ, for the background link.

ant81, as has already been said, the tang needs better conditons than you can provide, if he's to live and prosper.

ant81,

I know the locals are sounding harsh, but they're trying to give you advice based, not just on their own experiences, but the experiences of hundreds of other reefers. Tangs are big fish and active swimmers. If they don't have room to have some space to themselves and space to swim around, they'll go bonkers.

A big IMO here, but I don't think tangs make good pets at all. We can't come close to recreating their natural habitat, even in large 180+ gallon tanks. Few, if any, hobbyists, for example, have been able to keep a spawning school of tangs in captivity. Simply put, we don't have tanks big enough for them to live out their complete life cycles.

So, putting two tangs in a 55 rubs an awful lot of people the wrong way. That's just waaaay too far off from a healthy environment for them.
